[hdt] how to call hdt without syslinux

Hello,

HDT is really part of the syslinux eco-system as we are using some 
internals of it.
So I'm afraid that HDT can't work outside this environement which 
includes pxelinux, extlinux & co.

Running HDT on grub is not possible and if you want some system 
information under Linux, I suggest having a look at the excellent lshw 
project.
